Donaldson advanced to the rank of captain before leaving the army and coming to the Kennedy area after the war. He worked as the manager of an enterprise first known as the Donaldson-Ryan farm. The farm was owned by brothers Dennis and Peter Ryan and eventually became a bonanza farm under the ownership of the Kennedy Land and Town Co.
